The Black Expat Podcast aims to highlight the ups and downs of the expat experience. It touches on travel, current events, jobs, friendships, family, mental health and the overall expat experience. The goal is not only to provide others with information that I wasn't able to gain before my experiences, but also provide a space for expats worldwide to have their voices, stories, and experiences shared. We as people have far more in common than we think. Through interviews with other expats and people all over the world, I've learned of the many paths that may take when deciding whether or not to become expats. My hope is that The Black Expat Podcast reaches those seeking interesting stories and perspectives, good laughs, and information and knowledge presented in an entertaining way.

It's ok to talk about mental health. It's ok. No really, it's ok. Shortly after signing the contract to open the first and only Black owned bar in Taiwan, $12,000 worth of investment was removed, without warning or notice. This, along with several other life events, led to a short bout of depression. Mental health in our community is something that needs to be discussed more, and often. After years of saying "we should own a bar", we finally went out and... well own a bar. But it's so much more than that. It's a Haven. Sometimes life puts you in a situation or in the right place at the right time in order to have you leap head first into your passion, your dream, or your calling. Opening the first black owned business in Taiwan has been a tall order. But one that has been consistently rewarding and an invaluable learning experience. The Haven has arrived. Black culture is present and prevalent all over the world. Black people in some of those same spaces, however, are not. Outside of our homes it can be a struggle at times for people of color to find our safe Havens. Whether it be at work, in social settings, or on the opposite side of the world, Havens are important for our mental and physical health. There will always be those who look down on what you're trying to accomplish. It's inner motivation, drive, and passion for those for whom we care most that keeps us pushing forward. We met at a Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre concert and were three fifths of the black people at the entire venue. Fast forward a few months later and Siedah is with us at a dog shelter helping us choose our amazing dog Ava.
